Quay Anna Beyer

Quay was born at 7:01 p.m. on July 13th, measuring 7 pounds, 14 ounces and 20.5 inches long.  After having her heartrate monitored for quite some time, tbe arythmia was still present.  This made an induction of labor too risky and by 5:00 p.m. it was decided that a c-section was the only safe way to bring Quay into the world.  What a unique experience that was!  Much different from Trafton's delivery.  Although somewhat deprived of sleep, we are all doing well, comfortably resting in our room.

Day 4 Overdue: Induction!

This morning I had my non stress test and ultrasound. A heart arythmia was picked up (an irregular heartbeat) and after several hours it was decided that I should be induced today. I am being classified as a high risk induction with a high probability of a c-section. So, I am currently in my room, number 11, getting ready to have a baby!

Day 3 Overdue

As I walked through town today (I am trying to do lots of walking to encourage our little owl to come out), I saw lots of signs of the annual Monster Truck Show that is scheduled to begin tomorrow.  The Bloomsburg Fair Grounds are about a block or so from our house and the fairgrounds are filling up with monster truck attendees/participants/campers.  It's pretty loud and the truck traffic past our house has already started to thicken.  It would be a really good time to go into labor and spend the weekend out of town in the cool, air conditioned hospital :)

Day 2 Overdue

This afternoon I had an appointment with Angie, one of the midwives that I have been seeing.  She said that everything looks great and that I am three centimeters dilated.  That's progress!  However, I have yet to feel a contraction . . .

I have another appointment Friday for a non-stress test, then an ultrasound to check the amniotic fluid levels, then another check up with Angie.  If there is any trouble they would keep me and induce labor then.  Most likely there won't be any trouble and then an appointment for labor induction would be set up for next week sometime.

Unless our Baby Owl decides to make an appearance prior to Friday?

Due Date

Today is my due date!  Although the original due date I was given was the 15th, which later was changed to the 9th, and then to the 12th.  Officially, Baby Owl's due date stays the 9th because that was the earliest date found based on the ultrasound.  Based on my own calculations, though, I am going with the 12th as her arrival date.  All we can do now is wait and see . . .

We had our very talented friend, Brett, take family pictures of us a couple of weeks ago, with the goal being to capture the pregnancy, the family, and Trafton as a two-year-old - here is a favorite.

July 4th

We spent the hot fourth of July grilling in the backyard while Trafton played in the pool.  The neighbor, Kayla, came over to play with Trafton for a little while before dinner.  He just loves her!  Then we walked down to the school where I work and sat on the lawn to watch the fireworks at the Town Park.

Trafton was very interested in the fireworks for a few minutes, then he only wanted to run all over the place and wrestle.  Luckily we were the only people in our fantastic spot, so we were able to run around and be a little crazy with him.

Tackling

Taking a few minutes of 'chill time' from all that wrestling!

39 Weeks

This morning I had my 39 week checkup.  I saw Dr. Frye, a doctor that I haven't seen before.  He said that I was between one and two centimeters dilated and about 50% effaced.  He said we might have a daughter by the weekend!  But, he also said to be sure to make an appointment for next week, because, of course, she could still be a latecomer :)  I am due Monday and scheduled my next appointment on Wednesday if I need it.

Visitors!

Last Saturday, we had two rounds of company in one day - it was great!  First Jessica and Joe stopped by in the morning/afternoon on their way from Lake Wallenpaupack to their home in Duncannon, then Jason came up from Maryland to hang for the evening.  It was awfully hot in the morning, but as the afternoon and evening wore on the clouds rolled in and the temperature was quite pleasant.  We were able to spend most of the day outside, with Trafton hanging in the pool.

Trafton is enamored by Jessica and thinks she comes around just to play with him.  We took a walk on Main Street and she bought him an Elmo book that he was delighted to find at the Salvation Army.

Playing "Ashes" which is what Trafton calls "Ring Around the Rosie"

The best part of "Ashes" is when you get to fall down and tackle the person you are playing with :)  Really, any game that ends in a tackle is one of Trafton's favorites.

Relaxing by the pool with Jess and Joe

Uncle Jason brought Trafton many birthday presents, among them being an army jeep, tank, and trailer set that Trafton was instantly thrilled with.  Here he is showing Jason his other favorite trucks.

More pool time, this time with Jason

This has quickly become a classic expression of Trafton's - hands in the air, meaning he can't find something that he wants.

He LOVES this pool!

We were so relaxed out in the yard that we just kept on hanging and grilled out and had our dinner out there, too.  Trafton was finally coaxed from the water when it got dark out and the food was ready.

Knoebel's

Last Thursday we took a short trip to Knoebel's Amusement Park.  It's so close that we planned only to go for lunch and maybe a ride or two.  We ended up having lunch and then just playing on the playground, since Trafton wasn't feeling too great and didn't seem interested in any of the rides.  We left before it got super hot, too, so that worked out well.  Trafton enjoyed himself and fell asleep almost as soon as we left the parking lot.

Very unsure about this bridge - he quickly turned around and went back to Daniel.

There are tons of different kinds of steps to climb and Trafton loves steps.

Trafton went down the slide by himself, but was worried when Daniel didn't come right after him.  He tried to climb back up, so Daniel came down the tube to meet him.

Bluegrass in the Park

At the Town Park in the summer time, there are a variety of different types of concerts on  Wednesday evenings.  Last Wednesday there was a bluegrass band, Cabin Run, playing.  This consisted mostly of members of the band Stained Grass Window, a regular act at the OATS festival that we love, but decided to skip this year due to the heat and my late stage of pregnancy.  We had a nice evening and Trafton enjoyed running around the park.

We brought a cooler full of just ice, because we knew this would keep him occupied.  He can spend a lot of time playing with ice!

Rolling in the grass - he really amused himself with this!

Mouse - Yikes!

We've had our share of issues with our dear cat, Charley Hogan.  I think he has caused more distress in our lives than any other single thing.  We have tried so many different things to modify his behavior and make him into a good cat.  For the past 6-8 weeks, we have been giving him a blend of anti-anxiety medication.  We have also been using a Feliway air diffuser that releases unscented hormones into the air to help calm him.  This appears to finally be working for us.

Aside from all of that though, Charley Hogan was a hero to me last week.  There was a mouse in our house and our younger, faster, and sweeter cat, Animal was unable to sniff it out and catch it.  But, Charley was was right on top of the little guy.  Once Charley got the mouse in his mouth, Daniel picked Charley up, mouse and all, and put him in our backyard.  This is where Charley stayed, both satisfied with his kill and with the fact that he was being allowed in the outside world.  I mostly just freaked out during the entire incident and tried to keep Trafton and myself out of the way of the mouse.

Making sure the mouse isn't going anywhere

Extremely pleased with himself
